Explanation

After spending 40% on rent, 60% of the salary remains; after spending 30% of that, 70% remains, and after education takes 20%, 80% remains. Savings are therefore 0.60 x 0.70 x 0.80 = 0.336 of salary, so salary = Rs. 840 / 0.336 = Rs. 2500 per month; option b, Rs. 2000, applies the percentages directly to the original salary.
