He said that he wanted to talk to me, but I rejected him; therefore, it was so early in the morning.
Correct answer: C. Therefore
- A. To talk to
- B. But
- C. Therefore
- D. So early
Explanation
The sentence "He said that he wanted to talk to me, but I rejected him; therefore, it was so early in the morning" contains an error in the word usage. The word "therefore" is the correct answer because it is the word that is used incorrectly. The sentence is trying to connect two unrelated ideas, but "therefore" implies a logical consequence that is not present. The rejection and the early hour are not causally related, so "therefore" is the incorrect choice.

About Error Detection
Error detection requires finding faults in sentence structure, grammar, usage, spelling or punctuation and identifying the correction. The work draws on agreement, tense, pronoun reference, articles, prepositions, modifiers and parallel structure, so the incorrect part must be judged within the complete sentence rather than in isolation.
