Explanation

Different from is the form accepted in careful written English, and it is the one entry tests reward. Different than is common in American speech and different to in British speech, but neither is safe in an examination. The difficulty is idiomatic rather than logical: English fixes particular prepositions to particular verbs and adjectives, so “good at,” “married to” and “differ from” have to be learned as units rather than reasoned out.
