Mating with non-relatives is known as?
Correct answer: B. Outbreeding
- A. Inbreeding
- B. Outbreeding
- C. Breeding
- D. Assortative Mating
Explanation
Outbreeding is the process of mating between unrelated or distantly related individuals, which helps increase genetic variability and reduce the risk of genetic disorders. This is in contrast to inbreeding, where mating occurs between closely related individuals, potentially increasing the risk of recessive genetic disorders. The option 'Breeding' is too broad and does not address the genetic relationship, while 'Assortative Mating' refers to mate selection based on traits rather than genetic relatedness.

About Evolution
Evolution describes heritable change in populations over generations through variation, natural selection and adaptation. Lamarckism explains inheritance of acquired characteristics, while Darwinism explains selection of favourable inherited variations; these historical explanations must not be confused with the modern genetic account of evolutionary change.
