Which one of the following statements is correct with respect to kidney function regulation?

Correct answer: A. When someone drinks a large amount of water, ADH release is suppressed.

  • A. When someone drinks a large amount of water, ADH release is suppressed.
  • B. Exposure to cold temperatures stimulates ADH release.
  • C. An increase in glomerular blood flow stimulates formation of angiotensin II.
  • D. During summer when the body loses a lot of water due to evaporation, the release of ADH is suppressed.

Explanation

Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) or vasopressin increases the reabsorption of water in the distal convoluted tubule, collecting tubules and collecting ducts of the nephrons of the kidneys. As a result, the reabsorption of water from the glomerular filtrate is increased. When someone drinks lot of water, requirement of absorption of water decreases, so ADH release is suppressed.

About Homeostasis

Homeostasis maintains a stable internal environment through the kidney and urinary system, thermoregulation and excretion. The kidney topics include filtration, selective reabsorption, urine formation and water balance, while thermoregulation involves sweating, vasodilation, vasoconstriction and hormonal control; excretion is different from egestion, which removes undigested food.
