Which of the following joint is also known as an ellipsoidal joint?
Correct answer: B. Condyloid joint
- A. Saddle joint
- B. Condyloid joint
- C. Ball and socket joint
- D. None of these
Explanation
An ellipsoidal joint is also known as a condyloid joint. This type of joint is a synovial joint that allows for movement in two planes, such as flexion/extension and abduction/adduction. The joint surfaces of an ellipsoidal joint are oval-shaped, with one surface being concave and the other being convex. This shape allows for a wide range of movement while still providing stability to the joint. An ellipsoidal joint is a type of joint found in the wrist (between the radius bone and the carpal bones) and in the fingers (between the metacarpal bones and the phalanges).

About Support and Movement
Support and movement covers the axial and appendicular skeleton, bone structure, joints and the arrangement of skeletal muscles. Muscle contraction is explained through actin, myosin, sliding filaments, calcium ions and ATP, while arthritis is distinguished as a disorder of joints rather than a normal part of movement.
