The north pole of a magnet is brought near a metallic ring as shown in the fig. The direction of induced current in the ring will be:

Correct answer: A. Anticlockwise

  • A. Anticlockwise
  • B. Clockwise
  • C. first anti-clockwise and then clo'ckwise
  • D. First clockwise and then anti-clockwise

Explanation

By Lenz's law the direction of induced current in the ring is such as to oppose the falling of N-pole of the magnet. So, the direction of induced current will be anti-clockwise, because the induced current makes the ring a magnetic dipole. with its N-pole upward which opposes (repel) the N-pole of falling magnet.

About Electromagnetism

Magnetic flux density and magnetic flux describe the strength of a magnetic field and the field passing through a surface. A charged particle moving through a magnetic field experiences a force perpendicular to its velocity and may follow circular or helical motion, depending on the angle between velocity and field.
