Rutherford's atomic model failed because:
Correct answer: A. It did not account for the stability of atom.
- A. It did not account for the stability of atom.
- B. It did not account for the attraction b/w protons and neutrons.
- C. The atom did not have neutrons.
- D. None of these.
Explanation
Rutherford's model proposed that the negatively charged electrons surround the nucleus of an atom. He also claimed that the electrons surrounding the nucleus revolve around it with very high speed in circular paths. He named these circular paths as orbits. He also stated that electrons being negatively charged and nucleus being a densely concentrated mass of positively charged particles are held together by a strong electrostatic force of attraction. However, Rutherford's Model did not have any explanation regarding the stability of atoms and arrangement of electrons in an atom.

About Atomic Structure
Atomic structure covers the discovery of the proton, Planck's quantum theory, hydrogen emission spectra and the evidence for quantized energy levels. You will use quantum numbers to describe orbitals, distinguish s, p, d and f orbital shapes, and write electronic configurations, including the correct order of electron filling.
