Explanation

The Haber Process combines nitrogen from the air with hydrogen to form ammonia. The reaction is reversible and the production of ammonia is exothermic. The following reaction takes place in the reactor. N2(g)+3H2(g)⇌2NH3(g) At each pass of the gases through the reactor, only about 15% of the nitrogen and hydrogen converts to ammonia. Gases are cooled and ammonia turns into liquid. Liquid ammonia is separated and rest of the gas is recycled. By continual recycling of the unreacted nitrogen and hydrogen, we get about 98% of ammonia.
