Gymnosperms are NOT?

Gymnosperms are not flowering plants. The term "gymnosperm" means "naked seed." Gymnosperms produce seeds that are not enclosed within a fruit. Instead, seeds are typically borne on the surface of cones or similar structures. Gymnosperms often have cones as their reproductive structures. Male cones produce pollen, and female cones contain ovules that develop into seeds. Gymnosperms, like angiosperms, possess vascular tissue (xylem and phloem) for the transport of water, nutrients, and sugars.
