Brazil was supposed to chair BRICS in 2024, however due to a request, now BRICS 2024 will be chaired by Russia. Who made request and why?
Correct answer: D. Brazil's request for its plans to lead the G20 in 2024
- A. Russia's request in context of ongoing Russia-Ukraine war
- B. India's request for its plans to lead the G20 in 2026 when it will be due to chair BRICS
- C. China's request for its plans to lead the G20 in 2027 when it will be due to chair BRICS
- D. Brazil's request for its plans to lead the G20 in 2024
Explanation
Brazil requested the change because it was scheduled to host and lead the G20 in 2024, creating a heavy diplomatic workload alongside the BRICS chairmanship. Russia therefore chaired BRICS in 2024.
