A long solenoid is connected to a galvanometer and a bar magnet is passed perpendicularly through it with uniform speed. Which graph best represents the variation of the galvanometer deflection 0 with time?

Correct answer: A. A

  • A. A
  • B. B
  • C. C
  • D. D

Explanation

The field produced by the bar magnet is non uniform. As we move the magnet towards the coil the flux would increase to a certain value. The direction of current will be such that the north pole will be formed at the point of entry to the solenoid. After the magnet enters, the current falls down and when the magnet completely inside the solenoid current becomes zero.As we leaves the solenoid the leaving end becomes north and the direction of current becomes negative. Then the current will rise to attain a maximum value and falls down to zero.

About Electromagnetism

Magnetic flux density and magnetic flux describe the strength of a magnetic field and the field passing through a surface. A charged particle moving through a magnetic field experiences a force perpendicular to its velocity and may follow circular or helical motion, depending on the angle between velocity and field.
